Like a chick learning to fly his eyes fluttered open and then closed before the electronic clock went off and his hand flew up to shut off the annoying beeping sound that woke him every morning when he couldn't wake himself and slowly he began to crawl out of bed pulling the sheets with him before his feet touched off on the cold wood making them quickly retreat back into the blankets as he scowered the bed for socks. They weren't easy to find because whenever he wore them to sleep he always lost them like gum at night, he guessed he just unconciously took them off at night and tossed them anywhere but sometimes he thought he took them off though he in the morning he just didn't remember where he put them. It wasn't even time for work yet and he was on a case to solve a mystery just he didn't get paid on the clock for doing this. Then again, anything was better than his last case which had taken an extreme turn after he had finally found, chased, and cornered the killer, he gunned down the man once the man readied to drop the knife, but at the time he couldn't be sure whether or not the man was about to pitch the knife or drop it until he had already aimed amd when he aimed, he always followed with a bullet, Surely he went to court and because of his actions he had to go on vacation for weeks with no pay but he was finally back from his daily cycle of chores, eat and sleep. He reached across the bed to his dresser to get a pair of socks after five minutes of searching the blankets with no luck before sliding them on and stepping down from the bed. It didn't pay to look suspicious in the usual detective outfit so he went for the indiana jones look, brown hat, brown jacket and black shades. He slicked his hair back with a touch of gel and placed on his best dress shoes and proceeded to the station, the walk to his car went smooth and with a couple short cuts he was at the station only someone else was parked in his space. A ford crown victoria right there, in his space, the detective's space.

Oh how glad the person who drove this car would be right now if they knew exactly how close he was to breaking it, if he had a hammer he'd shatter the mirrors, if he had a knife he'd slash the tires but if he did any of that he'd surely lose his job, lose the only reason he had to park in the first place. He dusted off his shoulders and pulled into a parking space five cars to the left of the entrance, he parked and slammed the door on his way out. A couple steps and he was to the door and it swung open nearly missing his face and a female officer came out brushing shoulders with him, she had to be new, yeah she had to be. Yet her face looked all the more familiar to him, he could've sworn he had seen her before, Gracie Stewart, that's right she had been his partner for nearly two years and yet she passed without a word. It seemed like everyone had lost total respect for him and without respect a commander may as well be a rookie.

Ending:

The awkwardly pleasant fumes filled the room as the sleeping man rustled beneath the blankets eagerly searching for his partner as she trailed a line out of the hotel room as she squeezed the charcoal lighter bottle dry leaving behind fygnothing more than the lit match that would set the room ablaze as she strolled down the hall into the elevator as she slyly watched biting her bottom lip as the fire made the corner back to the room she had left as the steel doors began to shut. FWOOM, Sweat poured down the man's forehead as he tossed and turned within the softness of the blankets before he got a whiff of the smoke that was now making its way past the covers, his eyes flipped open like a woman pulling up the curtains after a sleepness night but he couldn't manage to move his hands and feet as the clattering of chains rung in his ears as the smoke got thicker underneath the cover and behind it the fire rose to the foot of the bed. He could literally feel the flames licking at the heels of his feet as he fiddled with the handcuffs that gripped him tightly by the wrists. The smoke was quickly choking him up as the fire spread along his legs and the pain shot threw his body to his brain like a bullet but his cries for help were muffled by the covers and his fate sealed.

A Detective who was
on vacation due to having assualted, shot and killed a suspect on Live
Television gets out of bed, finally knowing his vacation is over and it was
time to go back to work. He goes to the police station only to realize
someone's parked in his usual parking space and a partner for three years just
passes him by without a word. Thinking everyone has lost total respect for him
he ignores everyone until he gets what they say is his first assignment, not
paying much attention he accepts the assignment only to realize it is the same
one that he was taken off the case for last time and so he uses his prior
knowledge of the case to track down the suspect before he is able to make it to
the tv station where he works and the detective plays the cops around like a
game of chess where he finally brings the suspect in only to question the man
and win the case, putting the man away for life. He get promoted and becomes
chief investigator after his success and then takes on a case that not even his
superiors could figure out, with the most information up to date he goes after
the serial killer. Known for 50 killings in the United States, one in each
state, with no fingerprints, but all victims have been detectives who've taken
on the case. Dean goes for it in hopes of becoming more famous, while on his
way home he realizes that from the killer is traveling state to state and this
state would likely be the killer's next stop since it is next to another which
is also one of he hasn't hit. Dean is nearly ran off the road by someone who
follows him home in a jeep who has no license plate. Realizing this is a very
dangerous case unlike the others he stays home for a while as he tries to
figure out who the killer is, while away a police officer goes missing and turns
up on his front lawn this raises the eyes of the public and they begin to dig
threw the details of the case.

Knowing from previous
experience that the public eyes aren't of any help to any given case Dean
decides to hide any clues he finds on his own. Dean searches threw the records
and realizes that all detectives who took on the case happened to be killed yet
the only way to know who took on the case is by being in the police station
every time such a thing is being discussed but even then you'd have to be able
to hear threw walls...unless you were one of the police officers. Sean secretly
drives to Kansas Missouri telling only Idaho's police in hopes of having the
killer reveal their identity by following him as well as learn anything he can
from the most recent murder. When he arrives in Kansas he learns that the last
detective, Morris Bekham had noted the similarities of all victims before
himself, they were killed in a hotel, all were married, and all had children
and all died being burned to death and all were found alone. So now the things
he had to avoid were simple, being alone, hotels, fires and getting married.
Only question was if the last person knew this then why did he die? After
asking around Dean is shocked to learn that Bekham although home with his
family at the time was found outside, burned almost to the point he was
unrecognizable to even his wife and his car set aflame. Dean, now paranoid of
everything around him returns to Idaho only to learn that a detective in
Arkansas was found burned to death inside his house. Dean sets the case aside
and refills his car's tank and takes off, going from Idaho to Wyoming in the
course of three days, no stops. Scared, lonely and soon to be drunk Dean finds
himself desperatly searching for a woman to spend the night with, one which he
takes to a hotel for the night. That night turns out to be a blast but when he
wakes to a room filled with smoke and flames it quickly becomes a nightmare.
